Grand Cru
Latricières-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin · 57.15 ares · First vintage 1989
Latricières runs directly south of Chambertin at the mouth of the Combe Grisard, and the combe does more than funnel cool air down onto the vines through the growing season. Its geology extends underground into the vineyard, so that a site which looks uniform from the road is nothing of the sort. The Leroy plots sit within that intrusion, as do those of Drouhin-Laroze and Faiveley, on ground materially different from the straightforward continuation of Chambertin that makes up the rest of the climat. The soil is thinner here and the rock beneath harder, and the wine carries a higher aromatic register and a lighter frame than its neighbour above. Leroy is the sixth largest of twelve owners.
