Les Charmes lies on the mid-slope beside the village, on the band where Chambolle's soils run thin and gravelly over limestone. That shallow, hard-draining ground is the source of the fine-grained tannin and the aromatic lift the commune is known for, and it is why Chambolle premiers crus can carry a weight of extract without ever feeling heavy. The Leroy holding is among the smallest in the domaine.
