Bourgogne Rouge

Pinot Noir · 74.11 ares
The reputation of the wine, however, rests largely on a single vintage, a one-off cuvée.In 2004 Madame Bize-Leroy declassified the entire red production of both Domaine Leroy and Domaine d’Auvenay, collapsing the whole range into five cuvées. The Bourgogne Rouge absorbed Clos de Vougeot and every Côte de Beaune holding from grand cru down to village. The whites were bottled as normal. Her stated reason was the fruit, a crop of unripe grapes in a year marked by hail, rot and the pyrazine taint widely blamed on ladybirds. Following her husband Marcel Bize passing that year, Madame Bize-Leroy fell into a serious depression, and she could not bring her usual attention to the wines despite having a capable team in place. It was a one-off, and it has never been repeated.
